Civic Center, 5407 Turney Rd, Garfield Heights, OH 44125 (Directions)
Garfield Heights City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the City of Garfield Heights in Ohio. Council meets on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Council chambers.
Council typically reviews written communications to council as presented by residents, reports from the mayor and city departments. Residents have a second opportunity to address council about items on the meeting agenda. Council then introduces legislation and votes on legislation.
Citizens have a third opportunity to speak, this time in a general public comment forum. The meeting ends with miscellaneous business. Council does not typically discuss legislation in detail at this meeting; that happens in council’s committee meetings and during council caucus (6:30 p.m.) There are seven wards in Garfield Heights with each ward having an elected City Council member. Council Members are elected to serve a four-year term. Council members and the council clerk work part-time for the city. Council members serve two roles in their duties: to draft and enact legislation for the City of Garfield Heights and act as ombudspersons for their constituents.
Council members:
- Ward 1: Stacey Collier
- Ward 2: Tenisha Mack
- Ward 3: Mark Smith
- Ward 4: Avery Johnson, President
- Ward 5: Rachelle Tonsing
- Ward 6: Clifford Kelley
- Ward 7: Jennifer Newrones
Note: This meeting may start a few minutes late as it starts immediately following the Council Caucus meeting (6:30 p.m. -7:00 p.m.) Agendas are typically posted the Friday before the meeting and can be found here
Watching remotely? The meetings are streamed on YouTube.
