Poorly maintained city parks and rec centers top barrier to visits, report shows

Here is today's agenda! Ordinance 1388-2023 is in reference to the Bridgeworks Project at W.25th St. & Detroit Avenue.

Next on the agenda are price increases for Highland Park Golf Course. Nick Bednar, VP of Operations at Troon is presenting!

Mr. Bednar says the goal of increases are to "eliminate subsidy" and enact a "sustainable pricing model." 50K rounds of golf were played last year, 85% of which were by non-city residents.

The current subsidy is $1Million, with a goal of $400,000 for FY2024.

Ward 16 Councilperson @kazy_brian asked why 2 forms of ID would be needed for residents to receive a discount. At his request, the language of the ordinance was unanimously amended so that only a valid state-ID would be needed.

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky Fun fact: Luke Easter Park (formerly Woodland Hills Park) on Kinsman Road and East 116th Street is the largest City-owned park in the State. Here is a park plan from the 1930s!

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky What three words would you use to describe #Cleveland #Parks? Here is a word-cloud from OLIN's community engagement surveys.

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky Ward 10 Councilperson Anthony Hairston @HairstonCCC10 expressed concern that there was NO engagement happening in #Collinwood, #Glenville, or #EuclidPark. "I am not OK with that!"

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky @HairstonCCC10 Here is a map from OLIN's report showing where community engagement has taken place for the Cleveland Parks and Recreation Plan.

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky @HairstonCCC10 Other work by OLIN in Cleveland includes the redo of the plaza at the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building in 2019. Learn more about OLIN here: parks.theolinstudio.com

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky @HairstonCCC10 #1 reason residents don't visit city parks: they're not well maintained.

@kazy_brian @ADobshinsky @HairstonCCC10 Councilperson Stephanie D. Howse-Jones: "What is the point of this, and where are we going... this is nothing revolutionary."
