Now onto the agenda. Jadine Chou, Chief Safety and Security Officer for Chicago Public Schools delivers a presentation. The presentation will focus on the roles of police officers in CPS schools. https://t.co/terb6CimPk

Jadine Chou says CPS is shifting from a punitive to a restorative method. The goal is to lower expulsions and suspensions to keep children in school.

Jadine Chou says the current goal of CPS is to eventually remove School Resource Officers from schools. CPS left that decision to each local school.


Jadine Chou is now fielding questions from the public and the board. A public commenter asked about truancy officers. Jadine Chou spoke about the Back to Our Future program that engaged 465 students. The goal of the program is to increase outreach with children and families.

A public commenter asked about the number of nurses in CPS schools. Jadine Chou says the goal is to assign every school a nurse. There is currently a shortage of school nurses.

Jadine Chou has ended her presentation. President Foreman moves on to the agenda. Approval of the minutes of past meetings is passed.

The next regular public meeting of the board will be on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 7:30 pm.

Now onto the next item on the agenda. CPD applicant appeals The board will consider applicant appeals in a closed meeting.

Interim Superintendent Waller delivers his report. He says that like every summer in Chicago it has been a busy one for the department. Several events are coming to the city in the coming weeks including Lollapalooza and Beyoncé.

Chief Administrator of COPA Kersten delivers a report including complaints of alleged police misconduct received.

President Foreman moves on to public comments. A public commentator disagrees with the board’s decision to not fire an officer accused of beginning a sexual relationship with a woman he met on duty. President Foreman says there’s no current rule for that behavior.

Public commenter Cece Edwards says that she’s filing FOIA requests about cameras on 75th and Prairie.

The next public commenter is Jennifer Edwards. She’s advocating for more officers on the street in the 6th District.

The next public comment comes from Cecilia Butler. She stays in Washington Park and says the CAPS meeting attendees were kicked out of the field house and relocated to a legion hall and a senior citizen meeting. Interim Superintendent Waller says he will look into it.

The next public commenter says that she wants the officers accused of sexual assault in the 10th district to be fired. No more public speakers. President Foreman calls for the meeting to be adjourned. The meeting is over.
