The meeting will be held at the Clemente Community Academy High School, 1147 N. Western Avenue, Auditorium. The Board President and the Chief Executive Officer have determined that registered speakers who wish to present during Public Participation may have the option to participate in person at the location of the Board meeting or virtually via an electronic platform. The public will have access to the meeting via live stream at cpsboe.org. The Public Participation segment of the meeting will begin as indicated in the meeting agenda and proceed in accordance with Public Participation guidelines. Board Meetings will be live-streamed to the general public on the Board website (www.cpsboe.org). For the September 26, 2024 Board Meeting, advance registration to speak will be available beginning Tuesday, September 24th at 10:30 a.m. and will close on Wednesday, September 25th at 5:00 p.m., or until all slots are filled. Advance registration during this period is available by the following methods: Online: www.cpsboe.org (recommended) Phone: (773) 553-1600 Members of the public who wish to submit written comments for Board of Education meetings can do so via the Written Comments Form on the Board’s website at www.cpsboe.org or mailed to 1 N Dearborn, Suite 950. Written comments received between the posting of the public agenda and notice is posted through 5 p.m. the day after the Board of Education meeting will be submitted to the Board for their consideration and posted within five (5) business days on our website at www.cpsboe.org.

Roberto Clemente high school is a product of the self determination of Puerto Ricans in Chicago’s Humboldt park. This is a school with a strong organizing background.

CEO Martinez w/transportation updates: - 10k students w/disabilities r on route (this up from 7.2k last yr) - 1283/2200-2500 students left r still waiting to be put on a bus route. - 184 new bus drivers - students r placed w/in 10 days of requests or families r given stipends

The (ISBE) Illinois State Board of Education’s corrective action plan for CPS in regard to transportation closed as of April 2024. However a new complaint around transportation has been made. They are working to get in compliance. chalkbeat.org/chicago/2024/0…

Stevenson middle school teacher and Guadalupe P./speaker number 11 are asking for new buildings. Speaker #11 brought pictures in person of the deterioration. They weren’t shown on live. Issues range from mold exposure, broken fire alarms, to security concerns.

Parents for CPS Buses are looking for better customer service. It is taking 5wks on average to get on route. We suggest tracking student transfers due to transportation, level of pollution around schools at pick up and drop off, diversity at selective enrollment schools.

The Chicago Board of Education is charged with governing the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), setting policies, governing operations, and charting the direction of current and future programs.

A list of board members (with headshots) is here. Board members are currently appointed by the mayor. In 2021, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a bill into law that will gradually transition to a 21-member elected school board over the course of 2024-2027.
